Operate Counter-Balanced Lift Truck (F1&F2&F3 and F4) (New License) Compliance Training

The purpose of this programme is to give individuals the training to operate a battery-operated defined purpose lift truck. They can access emergency support and services in the case of an emergency while operating a lift truck. The person is also able to identify and classify the load, handle and move the freight while operating the lifting equipment per standards and its performance capabilities. They are also able to monitor the fitness of the lift truck.

Operate Counter-Balanced Lift Truck (F1–F4) Compliance Training in South Africa is a formal program designed to equip individuals with the skills and certification necessary to safely operate forklifts, also known as counter-balanced lift trucks. This training is essential for compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and is accredited by the Transport Education Training Authority (TETA).

Understanding Forklift License Codes (F1–F4)
In South Africa, forklift licenses are categorized based on the machine’s lifting capacity:​ Wheelset Academy of Machine Operators

F1: Up to 3,000 kg

F2: Up to 7,000 kg

F3: Up to 15,000 kg

F4: Over 15,000 kg​

To enroll in these courses, you will need to provide the training institution with the required documents, such as an employer declaration or a medical certificate confirming your fitness to undergo the training. These courses will equip you with the knowledge, skills, and experience to operate a counter-balanced lift truck safely and professionally.

 

This course introduces learners to the essential skills and knowledge required for the safe and efficient operation of lift trucks. Participants will learn to apply recognised methods for inspecting and recording the operational fitness of lift truck components, with a strong focus on workplace safety procedures. The course covers the identification and classification of freight, including documentation, packaging, and labelling, as well as the handling, loading, and storage of freight in line with industry standards and environmental considerations. Learners will also gain a deep understanding of maximising the performance of lifting equipment by applying knowledge of equipment dimensions, controls, and principles of operation. Operating equipment in accordance with organisational, legislative, and manufacturer guidelines, as well as accessing emergency support systems in the event of accidents or incidents, are key components of this course.

  • During the workshop, participants will be briefed on how to prepare and present a Portfolio of Evidence of practical assessment.
  • After attendance of the course and successful completion of both formative and summative assessments, the learner will be issued with a Certificate of Competence and an operating licence This unit standard is SETA-accredited and internationally recognised.
